Knab Insurances

Overview

From September 2016 to April 2018, I worked on Knab Verzekeren (Knab Insurances). Starting with the app, we built an application meant to become your personal financial advisor.

All your insurances in one place, whether you bought them through Knab or elsewhere. You always know what you’re paying, and you see right away when there’s a better insurance for you. An ambitious project with high expectations.

About the project

Until then, Knab had only offered banking. Knab Verzekeren was its first step into insurance, the start of a new environment within Knab. I started as part of a dedicated product team from Mobgen, working fully embedded at Knab: engineers, a business analyst and me as the team’s designer. By the end, I was the sole designer on the project, working more closely with Knab’s own teams and design team.

Our job was to create a new app with a design and journeys that belonged to the Knab brand, while feeling innovative and future-proof.

Knab Verzekeren app

Your insurances, and advice when you need it

The first release focused on one journey: making it easy to report car damage. Alongside it, we designed journeys for other types of insurance, such as home, contents and glass, all in the same overview in the new Knab Verzekeren app. Users could also add the insurances they had elsewhere, so they always knew who to call or where to report damage.

The home screen shows every insurance at a glance, with the total monthly cost. Car advice compares insurers on price and quality and on how well they match your profile, with a discount when you buy through Knab. Earlier advice searches are saved, and each policy opens on its details: insurer, policy number, monthly cost, start and end date, and the coverage.

Knab Insurances on web

Bringing web in line with the app

In the summer of 2017, I took on the UI/UX for web alongside the Knab Verzekeren app. Another agency, whose collaboration had since ended, had already built the website’s basic elements. From then on, my job was to improve the user experience on web and, step by step, close the gaps between web and app.

Buying insurance without an account

A flowchart of the web journey for buying insurance without a Knab account. It follows the user from product details through personal, contents, security and payment details to a summary, and shows what the service desk does behind the scenes, through to the email that the application is accepted or rejected.
